Scorched Island.

Scorched An idea of what our island might be set to become.

Scorched Island is a visual exploration that captures the aftermath of a wildfire, caused by the carelessness of man. Through the depiction of burnt bark, scorched earth, and raging seas, the artwork reflects upon the devastating consequences that arise when human actions disrupt the delicate balance of nature. This particular incident occurred at Baggy Point, a cherished beauty spot along the North Devon coastline, leaving behind a stark reminder of the impact of our behaviour on the environment.

By highlighting the human-induced nature of the wildfire, Scorched Island draws attention to the importance of responsible behaviour and the potential for unintended consequences. It serves as a call for greater mindfulness and accountability in our interactions with the natural world. Through its visual imagery, the artwork prompts viewers to reflect on the fragility of ecosystems and the urgent need to protect and preserve them for future generations.

In tandem with the physical destruction, this body of work also reflects the current socio-political climate permeating the United Kingdom. As the country grapples with an escalating cost of living crisis, frequent strikes, and a faltering government, a palpable sense of frustration and unrest lingers in the air.
